#10: American Elements Develops New Organometallic Electronic Coatings for Hewlett-Packard

The Challenge

Ultra high purity electronic coatings are often produced from high purity organo-metallic precursors. When Hewlett-Packard researchers decided to test experimental coatings, they required numerous forms of compatible elemental organo-metallics to run in multiple formulations.

The Innovation

HP turned to American Elements to select a compatible compound and produce test samples. American Elements produced acetylacetonate (commonly “acac”) forms of Al, Ca, Co, Cr, Fe, Li, Mn, Ni, Er, Y, Ga, Gd, V, Zn, Ba, Mg, Ce and La providing a group of compatible high purity materials for testing.

The Result

Hewlett-Packard has a suite of compounds that allow for in depth studies into how the materials worked independently and in combination. The work led to the development of several new potential coatings. Future research will also reach to this group of standards as baseline materials.
